My name is Marrit van der Schaar. In 2013 I moved to Melville, Johannesburg from Amsterdam with my boyfriend. We stayed for 3,5 years and had lots of adventures and even got a baby girl! Now we are back in the Netherlands, missing South Africa every day, but I’m so happy to be able to work. That was the only reason why we went back, despite all the efforts and help I couldn’t get a job.
This blog started from this point of view:
Back in the Netherlands I was working in the social housing and urban planning sector and I am hoping to find a job in the same sector again. There are many developments and housing issues in Joburg and I find them fascinating. As a newby I am still learning about the city and its diversity. Many neighbourhoods are constant on the move, either ‘on the up’ or declining.
In this blog I am going to write about the changing neighbourhoods, finding gems in the city and getting more acquainted with the city and its perks. If your interested in my opinion on the city, projects your are working on or something else, you can find more information about my professional activities on marritvdschaar.com
